Fire Scene Burn Pattern Analysis
Why experience matters....
From the small kitchen fire......
to a complete burn, TDI has the experience to conduct a proper and thorough fire or explosion scene analysis.
This fire originated on the interior and was determined to have been caused by the failure of an electrical component. This determination successfully prevailed in litigation.
Localized, floor-level fire damage with significant damage to floor joists. This pattern could easily be misinterpreted by an inexperienced investigator as having been caused by an ignitable liquid. However this fire was determined to have been caused by a power cord that had been pinched under the entertainment center.
These post-fire patterns could have been misinterpreted as having been caused by an accelerant. The patterns shown here were caused by the burning of a plastic hose to an oxygen generator.
Incendiary? Yes, this post-fire pattern was caused by the burning of an ignitible liquid.
Reconstruction often provides important, and sometimes the only available, physical data regarding a fire or explosion; therefore, accurate reconstruction is critical. The clean burn on the wall, the spring distortion, and localized frame damage indicate that the fire originated on the left end of the sofa. The cause was determined to be a burning candle that was left unattended and badly placed.
Documentation throughout the investigation, from beginning to end, is a must. TDI utilizes digital photography to document your fire or explosion loss. Documentation by film photography and video is available upon request.
Accurate and thorough reconstruction and documentation are critical components of a successful investigation.
